Minimal hal ini akan menjadi tantangan industri pelabuhan, setidaknya di tahun 2022 ini :
Dari Internal.
Jaminan koneksi internet yang sudah minor gangguan dan pengembangan sistem otomasi harus mampu disediakan operator pelabuhan agar mampu menjawab perubahan dari manual ke otomasi di revolusi industri 4.0. People Management yang juga sangat penting di dalam menjaga pelabuhan tetap kondusif agar arus barang dan kapal dapat terjamin, sehingga arus logistik akan lancar dan akan berdampak pada pertumbuhan ekonomi. Diperlukan pula pengelolaan yang baik untuk perawatan peralatan bongkar muat secara rutin untuk mengurangi adanya idle time dalam pelayananannya.
Di eksternal.
Kondisi ekonomi yang belum pulih akibat COVID-19 akan dibebani lagi oleh kondisi geo politik yang tidak stabil seperti yang terjadi antara Rusia dengan negara-negara NATO saat ini. Belum lagi trend para operator vessel yang terus memperbesar ukuran kapalnya dan akan menjadi tantangan tersendiri untuk operator pelabuhan dalam menyediakan fasilitas penyandaran. Di dalam perkembangan Industri 4.0 ini, maka cyber attack akan menjadi tantangan tersendiri yang harus dihadapi. Bahkan Organisasi Maritim Internasional (IMO) sempat offline karena malware pada tahun 2020. Dan tantangan lain yang akan terus dihadapi juga keterlambatan kedatangan kapal (out of window) yang mengharuskan operator pelabuhan memutar otak untuk manajemen berth & yard agar tidak terjadi kongesti. Good management is also needed for the maintenance of loading and unloading equipment on a regular basis to reduce idle time in its service.

Economic conditions that have not yet recovered due to COVID-19 will be burdened again by unstable geo-political conditions such as what is happening between Russia and NATO countries at this time. Not to mention the trend of vessel operators who continue to increase the size of their vessels and will be a challenge for port operators in providing docking facilities. In the development of Industry 4.0, cyber attacks will be a challenge that must be faced. Even the International Maritime Organization (IMO) was offline due to malware in 2020. And another challenge that will continue to be faced is the delay in ship arrivals (out of window) which requires port operators to rack their brains for berth & yard management to avoid congestion.
