Managing Last Mile Logistics of Refrigerated Goods

MANAGING LAST MILE LOGISTICS OF REFRIGERATED GOODS

Improvements in last mile logistics are as much about how you prepare for the last mile as what happens during the last mile. As pressure increases to fulfill more deliveries, the pressure to maintain the integrity of the cold chain also increases. Maintaining that integrity will be easier to do if you prepare products before they even go onto the trucks. Pre-cooling shipment maybe makes the refrigerated truck all the more efficient. It means the product arrives in good condition and customer expectations are met.

“Expectation are rising, and with them, opportunities exist for meeting, and exceeding those expectations”, said Yasni on International Seminar: Cold Chain Logistics & A New Standard ISO 23412, on November 14th, 2019, at JIEx Expo, Jakarta, that linked in SIAL Interfood & Seafood Show of Asia Expo. “It’s up to last mile logistics management to deliver, and our national third party logistics (3PL) with the service provider will be ready to get this business opportunity!”, added Yasni.

After Working Group of ISO/PC 315 Meeting on November 12th to 13th and its Plennary on November 14th (focusing on document specifies requirement for the provision and operation of indirect temperature controlled refrigerated services for refrigerated parcels), ARPI, BSN Indonesia, this ISO team and the EO Kristamedia held this international seminar. Mr. Yustinus Kristianto as Director of MEETTI from BSN Indonesia (National Standardization Agency) talked about Standard Development Process in Indonesia.

“You can find the perfect unit to meet your temperature needs no matter what precious cargo you are transporting. Event it that means having a vehicle that is capable of both hot and cold transport!”, said Richard Grondin from Chronopost. “Education of cold chain logistics with this ISO procedure have to provided by industry” explained Kune-Muh Tsai from National Kaoshiung University. And Piyawan Thapangpan explained in details about how to manage a good cold chain transportation that will be have a good regulation as Thailand government made.

“This term refers to the supply chain of perishable items that are temperature-sensitive. It also include the strategy behind transporting these products accross for distance in a way that will protect and not damage them. The need for this of transportation is on the rise accross the globe as well as locally!”, said Okawara from Yamato holding and Nakano from Nippon Kaiji Kyokai.

ASEAN-Japan guidelines on cold chain logistics showed that how Japan government and the people concern in food quality management and its temperature controlled during delivery. Fukuhara from Ministry of Land, Transport and Tourism explained that guidelines. Now, Japan is one of the Asia countries who lead this management.

The meeting and seminar was attended by countries, such as: Japan, China, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia as a host, United Kingdom, France, and Germany.

Finally, ARPI notes the refrigerated transport world market is expected to reach 3.25 billion tons by 2022. Business around the world rely on temperature controlled storage when shipping their goods. Indonesia expect to reach 42.85 million tons by 2022.
