Frozen Food Tetap Bergairah dan Diproyeksikan Tumbuh Positif Signifikan / Frozen Food Sector Remains Vibrant with Projections for Significant Positive Growth

FROZEN FOOD SECTOR REMAINS VIBRANT WITH PROJECTIONS FOR SIGNIFICANT POSITIVE GROWTH

Indonesia’s economic growth in the third quarter, which remained solid at around 5.2%, indicates that public purchasing power and household consumption continue to be the primary pillars of the economy.

The outlook for the frozen food industry is highly positive; however, the competitive landscape is shifting—moving beyond mere production-scale rivalry toward competition centered on regulatory compliance, the reliability of cold chain logistics, and food safety.

Market trends and business opportunities are particularly promising, driven by lifestyle changes among the current generation and urban consumption patterns that favor practical, long-lasting, and portion-controlled products (such as ready-to-eat or ready-to-cook items). Furthermore, the expansion of medium-to-large-scale modern retail and the growth of e-commerce are contributing to this momentum. To navigate this environment, product diversification and innovation will be the keys to business success.

As previously mentioned, the government is adjusting regulations and business compliance requirements, which include: 1. Product registration and distribution licensing (via BPOM), 2. Mandatory Halal certification by 2028, and 3. Standards for cold chain logistics and packaging.

This information emerged during the Krista Interfood 2026 expo, held from November 4–7 at the NICE PIK Convex building in Jakarta. The venue was packed with exhibitors and visitors from the food and beverage industry, alongside companies specializing in the cold chain sector—covering transport, storage, and essential refrigeration equipment. Notable participants included Ekspedingin (storage and transport), AntarEs (last-mile delivery), and Sun Cargo Shipping (inter-island shipping compliant with cold-chain cargo requirements). Also featured were EV technologies developed through collaborations—such as Hwasung Thermo’s partnership with vehicle body builder Mikrolette and EV manufacturer Foton, and a joint initiative by EST, Cold Space, and body builder Delima Mandiri—as well as chest freezers equipped with eco-friendly cooling systems provided by Gununges Indonesia. Several manufacturers of insulation panels were also present, joined by various other members of the Indonesian Cold Chain Association (ARPI). Meanwhile, from November 16–20, ARPI—in collaboration with the National Standardization Agency of Indonesia (BSN) and the IDSurvey group—will host the ISO/TC 315 Cold Chain Logistics Plenary Meeting at the Graha Mandiri building. ARPI, entrusted as the host, has received full support from several of its key members. Furthermore, ARPI’s General Chairperson has been appointed to lead Technical Committee 55-02 on Cold Chain Logistics and Distribution. Under this leadership, the association has developed several Indonesian National Standards (SNI) covering areas such as last-mile and middle-mile delivery, the traceability of temperature-sensitive food shipments, requirements for refrigerated truck boxes, and personnel competency standards for cold-chain logistics. ARPI has also collaborated with other technical committees on standards for PIR insulation panels, warehouse receipts for fishery products, and Controlled Atmosphere (CA) storage facilities for fruits and vegetables. During this ISO meeting, ARPI—through Technical Committee 55-02—will present a topic concerning recommendations and requirements for inter-island shipping of temperature-sensitive products.
